I had a routine #colonoscopy yesterday. No polyps. Nothing but good news on that front but there was one curious thing: My blood pressure spiked during the procedure. I fought back against being asleep so the anesthesiologist had to give me more medicine to keep me under and to lower my blood pressure.
Is there anyone in #Medical CoSo that can explain this? Once awake my BP normalized. It's never high like that unless my body is stressed. My dad had lifelong BP issues but I'm normal.
@danielbsmith Having a colonoscopy is a stress to the system. If you weren’t sedated enough, your BP could spike as it could in any other stressful situation. Doesn’t sound to me like there’s anything to be concerned about. Good news about your negative colonoscopy!
@johnldeboer Thanks. That's what I was hoping to hear.
@danielbsmith if your blood pressure spikes significantly when you are stressed, it’s not unusual. But given your family history, I’d get a home blood pressure monitor and take a few periodic readings noting your stress level at the time. We do this for my spouse for these reasons and as he’s aging, the numbers are changing.
@TheresaVermont I've done that from time to time. There's nothing unusual so far but I'll continue to spot check. Thank you.
@danielbsmith Anesthesia and anxiety could be a factor.
