@ToolPackinMama Yes and no. Yes, the universe started with a bang and it's still technically going on. No, it's not an explosion as we understand them.

Explosions we are familiar with are destructive. The big bang was creative. In an instant everything that was ever going to exist in the physical universe came into being--all matter, energy, space, and time.

It's an amazing thought, to be honest. I think there was a Creator God behind it all. It's such a beautiful image to me.
