From Robert Reich's newsletter: #KamalaMedicareProposal
"Kamala Harris wants to expand Medicare to include home-based, long-term care for all Medicare recipients and fund it with the major savings found by negotiating drug prices with Big Pharma. This expansion would be enormously helpful to Americans in later life, resolving a major point of stress and worry for many older people and their families."
This would be big!

The big problem with this is: who's going to provide this care? Nursing homes are having trouble finding staff, and their aides take care of multiple patients.
Who's going to do this 1 on 1, 24 hour care? It's a 3 person job, minimum. In a multiple patient setting, 3 people can care for 4-6 patients. 3:1 vs 3:5?

My mother had an in-home care insurance policy. We couldn't use it, because she needed full-time care. Even with the insurance it would cost more for her at home than in an institution.
If she was wealthy it would have been a different story, but we still would have had difficulty finding staff. 3 aides and a part-time LPN. That's what a group home has for staff, generally.

My partner & I vote Monday! I'm on Medicare & Social Security - you can bet I'll be voting Harris/Walz at the top of the ticket & Blue all the way down! They don't have a selection anymore for Straight Ticket voting, but I don't mind voting for each one individually! 🗳🌊
