Often two things seem opposing, but are in fact both possible. For example Jimmy Stewart's character, Elwood P. Down in the excellent comedy "Harvey" says:
"In this world, you must be oh so smart, or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me."
I contend that both are possible. One can be smart, and pleasant.
Am I wrong?
@danalan You are not. The word "and" is one of the most powerful words, and there's always someone trying to convince you that it's supposed to be an "or".
There's a cognitive bias that leads to the false dichotomy fallacy, and that gets used on us all the time.
If you give someone a choice, they'll typically accept one of the choices, instead of figuring out which things (plural) they really want.
@danalan , no. You're not wrong.
