Thirty glorious years.

Postwar prosperity depended on a truce between capitalist growth and democratic fairness. Is it possible to get it back?

"Democratic capitalism wasn’t a government takeover of the market economy, but it rested on a class compromise."

USB-C Was Supposed to Simplify Our Lives. Instead, It’s a Total Mess.

A mix of hidden standards make the ubiquitous cable a pain to deal with.
By Owen Williams

Furthering the confusion, some devices actually can’t be charged with chargers supporting Power Delivery, despite sporting a USB-C port — because they weren’t designed to negotiate the higher wattage being delivered by the Power Delivery standard.

China’s Air Force Might Be Back in the Nuclear Business.

Circumstantial evidence suggests that China now possesses a full nuclear triad.

In addition to the circumstantial evidence suggesting that the PLA could be stationing nuclear-capable bombers at Neixiang and reinforcing the infrastructure with an eye toward nuclear missions, the PLAAF also reactivated what is likely an old bomber unit – publicly known as 93671 Unit.

The President Contracting COVID-19 Is A Major National Security Crisis.

Beyond the President's ability to fill his role within the National Command Authority, other circumstances that do not necessitate dealing with an incoming nuclear attack would make it nearly impossible for him to lead effectively and in a sustainable manner while diagnosed with COVID-19.

WTF is going on with rents in major cities.
It is a roller coaster. With some markets raising rents 15%,
And some dropping 20%.

Ok I am going to comment once, and only once, about 45, and COVID. Then I am ignoring all of this.
I wish illness or death on no one. It has nothing to do with justice or karma, or any other bullshit rationalization. I hope 45 stays well enough to meet the full force of the rule of law that he deserves. It is not I that judges him, but the courts, and Constitution that will. Yes I believe he is narcissistic bastard, and should never have been elected. I will take no pleasure in his illness.

This should cheer you up.

"We, this people, on this small and drifting planet

Whose hands can strike with such abandon

That in a twinkling, life is sapped from the living

Yet those same hands can touch with such healing, irresistible tenderness

That the haughty neck is happy to bow

And the proud back is glad to bend

Out of such chaos, of such contradiction

We learn that we are neither devils nor divines"

~Maya Angelou, excerpt

Years ago, I needed, well everything. Strung out, and near death, but still working a (union) job. They sent me to a Psychiatrist. After just 25 minutes of my story, he keeps saying "Wow, really", then said "Son I can't help you, what you have been through.... I ... just... have no idea where to start."

Unhappiness and age

"I examine the relationship between unhappiness and age using data from eight well-being data files on nearly 14 million respondents across forty European countries and the United States and 168 countries from the Gallup World Poll. […] Unhappiness is hill-shaped in age and the average age where the maximum occurs is 49 with or without controls."

Very Large Telescope spots galaxies trapped in the web of a supermassive black hole.

Supermassive black holes in the early Universe? These are extreme systems and to date we have had no good explanation for their existence,

"Our work has placed an important piece in the largely incomplete puzzle that is the formation and growth of such extreme, yet relatively abundant, objects so quickly after the Big Bang,"
