Despite all you nutters with your chaos of submissions formats (I kid - it's actually very true to the creation process of a classic 'zine!), we're closing in on a final layout.
We're looking at a 24-pager, once @JeniRizio has sent along a follow-up email.
Colour and formatting tweaks next, but I also need the names you want to go by! (Anon's covered.)

I have colour options set up (pantone equivalents noted), but we can all chat about those once the last of the content is in, and the formatting tweaked. Close to the finish now! (Herding cats is easier, but we get the job done eventually. 😉)

I will give a shout out to the printer, tell him it is coming along.
When the files are ready, I know to make sure the colour is in CMYK (as opposed to RGB: better for matching to the colour-library on site), but would your printer prefer the pages in 8 ½ x 11 format (i.e., following the standards for double-sided printing, so pages 1 & 24 together, 2 & 23, 3 & 22, etc.) or as a file with 24 separate pages for him to arrange instead?
(When I worked as an EIC, we used to send out materials 4 by 4 at a time: four colours, four pages on one broadsheet.)

if you are holding the layout boards landscape, page 1 in on the left side, and then page 2 is also on the left side.

Actually, let's just quickly confirm process, because usually it goes "back page front page", not Page 1 on the left.
So I'd be laying out the sheets:
24-1
2-23
22-3
4-21
20-5
6-19
18-7
8-17
16-9
10-15
14-11
12-13
Do you have a print set-up that would require a different order?
Ok that will work.
we call that "work and tumble"
This going to print on a 8 ½ x 11 press.
So "work and turn" means all the sheets go through the press the same way, meaning the "header" or "gripper" in on page 1 then turn the paper and "gripper is on page 2. each sheet has the same gripper margin at the same end.
Work and tumble means the paper is tumbled, head over tail. as is goes through the press, for second side.
This is why I was confused for a second, but you hadn't mentioned the flip. This is the standard process for a 4-page broadsheet, too, but without the mention of flipping one sheet I was confused.
So, if it helps, I can set up the file with the following 8.5 x 11 boards:
24-1 (but upside down, so 1 is on the "left" visually)
2-23
22-3 (upside down)
4-21
and so on, and so forth.
Your image still doesn't make sense with P1 (it would be upside down when folded), but the reverse works.
so work and turn is usually better for registration. same gripper. each sheet.
But in truth for this project it don't matter.
Or we can just stick to the basic format for a work-and-tumble to reduce chances of error!
I still don't understand how this process yields a Page 1 that emerges right-side-up, but at this point I'll defer to your experience with the process. It's been 14 years since I last visited an industrial press; knowledge declines without active use.
If you say 1-24, flipped 2-23, etc., I'll set up the 12 boards that way and leave it in your and your printer's capable hands! I'll see if I can find a video to figure out what I'm missing about the visuals you so kindly shared. Cheers.
Yeah, I think we both did a good job of confusing ourselves when we both have different bodies of experience with presses. :)
A flipped 1-24 makes more sense (which is essentially 24-1, just turned around), and is what shows up in all the guides I'm touching base with now. A right-side-up Page 1 on the left side of the board would be facing the fold, and that wouldn't work for the final product.
But text is an inferior medium for these kinds of confirmation chats, sometimes! 😅
There's time enough to confirm the final form, though - and it'll be an easy fix if the printer needs this formatted differently, no matter what. Thanks for taking the time to talk 'shop with me, Corlin - and for making all the vital contacts with "our guy".

I'm used to larger industry processes where four pages are processed at once, but always with the aforementioned order between pairs.
This is great! I learned something today - even if I still can't quite visualize how a left-sided Page 1 works.
