The IRS Rolls Out A Direct File Pilot

Thanks to the Biden-Harris administration and the formerly Democratic Congress, the Internal Revenue Service is developing a way to file directly, not with the expensive intermediation of Intuit.

I suspect that the site will be oversubscribed for a while, but you can sign up to be notified when it opens further.

@corlin The best thing about being retired is not having to file an income tax form any more. (as long as one's MAGI - 1/2 SS plus all other income - is lower than 25K this year)

Yep.
I am just over that limit, so I do file.
But no capital gains, so the simple form.

@corlin YAY! SImple is sublime. :)

Oddly, the VA income doesn't have to be reported... which is good because they are massively overpaying me this year and will want it back next year so I won't have to refile my taxes.
