Opinion:
We all read about great breakthroughs in energy and material productions. And it's good news. But none of these matter if we can't build them. The single most important policy needed now is permit reform. I fear the one thing that will kill all this good innovation is NIMBYisam. Remember that new huge transmission line being built, took 18 years to get permits.

more.

Now many folks do not want to see permit reform because they believe it will allow oil and gas projects to circumvent environmental regulation. Listen up, oil and gas production are dead men walking. They know it. I say open it all up, within reason. If one pipeline gets built, and 5 long haul transmission lines gets built. We win. If one locally cited, small, safe nuclear reactor gets built for steel production. For every 5 new gas's wellls, we win.
