spun up a FreeBSD VM & installed Jellyfin…
def works…
test plan:
▪️added libraries for: music, tv shows, movies
▪️added new content to libraries for dynamic discovery
▪️played content from each library on both tablet and CCGTV
everything checked out and worked fine…there's "watch next" and "resume" capabilities…it's def self-contained and doesn't require any dumbass cloud login…
but it lacks…polish…
I'm in a groove...let's do Emby… 🤓🖥️
Good to know.
I looked at Jellyfin, and was impressed. If I did not have a lifetime Plex pass, I got it years ago for $40.00, I would definitely switch.
everything I said in the above post re: Jellyfin "polish" is incorrect...I was blocking all the attempts to fetch the polish on my lab firewall and was too drunk to realize that...Jellyfin has all the polish...art/synopsis/cast/ratings/etc...
apologies 😞
Thanks..
Good to know...
Ok when I get some free time, I will spin it up and give it a test drive.
ngl...was a lil bummed about not havin the polish...now that I've addressed my own idiocy, the switch from Plex to Jellyfin is a no brainer...I'm doin it tonight...buh bye Plex
latest
my testing (for better or worse) has been a VM running FreeBSD 13.2 with Jellyfin 10.8.10 (released 23 Apr)
the physical box; however, will run Ubuntu Server 22.04 (which is codenamed Jammy Jellyfish...seems serendipitous) cuz I'm gonna run Jellyfin in an isolated network namespace, which is easier to do on Linux than FreeBSD (IMHO)

Me.... I will use a Raspberry Pi 4b, and a big SSD.

@corlin
to be clear(er)
I added two recent albums to music, and it grabbed the art just fine
in the tv shows library, it's just doin frame grabs of episodes for art, not grabbin art for the show/season, and not grabbin episode synopsis...same for movies...
...which I'm callin "polish", but folks used to Plex would immediately react "this isn't as good"...I get that...I personally don't care that much, but it's clearly noticeable...
