As a nature photog, it can be a point of pride to say, "I'm going into the woods to shoot x type of animal. The success is even cooler when you try find a specific animal

Two weeks earlier, a hawk crossed my path so fact, I could not figure out where it went.

When I came back to find that particular hawk, found him at the same spot.

He did not want to be found.

/... Birds are phenomenal gaze detectors - they don't like being watched.

So when this guy realized I was after him, he played cat and mouse with me for about an hour. He would fly ahead and hide in the trees/brush, only to repeat the same when I got close. Amazingly, he would let other people (who did not know he was there) walk past his hiding spots. He even flew across a river to avoid me, and flew back over head when I was looking down at my camera. (saw the shadow first, then him.)

Yep..

Crows do this also.

When I walk into the forest. The crows are expecting me, (I bring nuts).
They make a lot of noise, until I look directly at each one and say "good morning". Then they quiet down and watch for the treats. They know my route, and so fly ahead and repeat.

Unlike the hawk, they crave attention, demand that I great them.

Really!

I never knew that!

Animals are amazing!

This guy works at LA zoo’s conservation program. There’s a mated pair of ravens that visit regularly.

@corlin Yup. The hawk really was not in the market for an audience.

@corlin @electrikmonk One time the crows in my neighborhood were losing their damn minds, squawking up a storm. I walked out, looked around, down to the street, and there was a dead red-tail. I stared at it, it didn't move. They shut up.
