Went to my parents yesterday and I politely had to ask my father to stop ranting about "The Liberals" screwing up this country.
Is it really too much to ask that you show me the tiniest modicum of respect while I'm making repairs on your house? SMH
@JPSCHWEIZER63 For many years I tried gently correcting the "facts" they get from Fox new, but I realized it's a losing battle. Now I settle for no discussion of politics when I'm there and I frequently can't even get that. It's kind of sad how uncomfortable I am around them.
@chaos440 My experience has been that if they know you, they rationalize away your liberal qualities. "Real" Liberals are a largely imaginary population extrapolated from tiny, and often contradictory, minorities of us.
@00pi There's always a condescending undertone with the implication that they can convert me into a "good, patriotic conservative". My family's all conservatives except for me and my sister (who stays in the liberal closet, so to speak). I am frequently referred to as 'The Prodigal Son'. Shrug.
@chaos440 I would incessantly mock them in reply. Imagine a position to their right, insist that you've adopted it and they're the damned liberals. See how they like it.
@chaos440 because it's the liberals who ended a woman's right to choose? Liberals got rid of the pandemic response team so 400,000 unnecessary deaths in 2020? So ridiculous the foolish things Fox news has done to a certain population.
