I adopted this awesome from a shelter in Massachusetts in August, 1987. He’d apparently escaped on the , held for three weeks in the local pound without being reclaimed, then put up for adoption. He lived another 17.5 years and was one of Earth’s best . PLEASE make sure that your dog has a CURRENT ID tag and if possible a microchip tied to your current info so they can be returned to you if they “bolt” due to fright!

Looks like that pup lived the life of Riley! He’s so lucky to have had you take him in. It’s hard to imagine the sheer terror, then sadness, that he went through starting on that 4th of July.

And yes, get your pets microchipped! ID tags/collars can fall off or be removed by someone who might want to keep your pet.

@Luber905 Every shelter, animal control agency, and veterinary office has a microchip scanner. The problem is, when people adopt pets or move or change phone numbers, they never update the microchip database.

@cassandra17lina

If you move, it’s up to you to update the chip registration! There are agencies that aggregate microchip info from virtually all the North American registries. Register your pet with one of these and your likelihood of recovering them increases immensely.

Agreed, it’s not a perfect device. But I believe it’s the best there is.
