So if anxious Democrats manage to sack their best presidential candidate, and replace him with someone who has no track record, and the polls don't change, then what will they do?

Once you sack him, there's no going back.

If the polls get worse because people think Dems are disloyal and can't be trusted, who will you blame?

@WordsmithFL I can't help but remember a few years back, up here in Canada, our long-serving leader, Jean Chretien, was planning on retiring. Some in his party decided soon wasn't soon enough so they ran him out of the party, roughly. They were trounced at the polls and lost everything. It would be 9 years in the dark with the demon Harper as a result.
