The gold check is for people who went Pro in the first five years. If your Twitter verification had worked, your check would be blue now. Personally I would keep the gold one because you can't get them anymore.
@voltronic yes! I didn't take my time to look and see if I had the gold checkmark because I assumed it would show next to my icon on all my postings. Total user error and thankful I didn't screw it up!
