DIY coat hook rack. You can even put a shelf on top for pretties. They make great gifts - you can even personalize them.
If it's hardwood, you can make a DIY butcher block in any size you choose -- cutting board, countertop, desk, table, etc. You can score free instructions online.
Birdhouses. We had a dozen of them in our yard in MO thanks to hubby not wanting to throw anything away if it could be turned into something else useful.
