Am very bummed.

My new scanner, purchased to make my digitizing of family history photos easier, does not work.

I have removed and reinstalled software. No help.

If I click on the desktop icon, it says that it doesn't recognize the scanner. Asks if it is properly attached. Yes, it is.

I think it is defective. When first turned on, it flashes a few seconds, then turns off. According to instructions, it should flash, then remain lit.

Sigh...

Any Epson Perfection V39 experts out there?

@BlueStateBabe If you are using a USB connection, make sure the connection mode switch is set to the position (ES-300W/ES-300WR

@BlueStateBabe might be software side -

so uh what about this.

Did you install the software first?

Before plugging it into the PC?

Also do you have PNP (PlugNPlay) enabled on USB? it should be by default. As in when you plug a device in it will auto detect it.

Have you tried holding the power button for a few seconds and see if that does a reset? Ill look to see how to reset if possible.

@MrGoat
Yes, installed before plugging into PC. THat was in the directions. Need to look into the PNP. Went into the add device part of my computer, but it couldn't find the scanner. I got absolutely no response from the power button. Actually, it has no on/off. It automatically (allegedly) turns on and off when plugged into computer. But there is a button that alerts it (maybe wakes it up?) before pressing desired function button. And it was dead.

@BlueStateBabe @MrGoat sounds like the USB port doesn't have enough power. I would get a powered USB hub (cheap), plug the scanner into it rather than the PC. Also for extra optional bonus points update the USB driver

@b4cks4w @MrGoat

It actually warns against using a hub.

Did update the driver, which I thought bizarre,. since the one on the website for this model SHOULD have been up to date already. But apparently not.

Soooooo frustrating.
