The basic problem, and hear me out, is people no longer know how to have a relationship with either mystery or uncertainty. Nor are they able to truly define what mystery is — if it’s beyond their own individual ken, they’re perfectly happy to declare it “unknowable” or “mysterious,” even though the measuring stick is what humankind knows. People don’t know what they don’t know and are far too comfortable in their ignorance. Embracing mystery and embracing knowledge are not mutually exclusive.
