@BlueStateBabe When I read this, I thought first of my mother. She was in the middle of 14 siblings, so bedrooms were shared.
My mother often told us about sleeping with a transistor radio pressed to her ear, listening to KYOK radio (A noted black radio station in Houston).
She would have been punished if caught by my grandparents.
My Mom is my hero. She is the least prejudiced person I have ever known and she raised us to be the same.
Born on her 18th birthday, I am who I am due to her.
@Xponent_Rob But the parents prefer bad country music. Or Lawrence Welk.
@Xponent_Rob
Maybe life was different when I was a teen, but most of my music consumption was outside of home. At school. On the bus. At friends' homes. Listening to the radio as I rode a bike or drove a car.
I can't see it being much different, other than instead of an am radio, they are streaming on their smartphone.
