I would like to take a moment to address my fellow Queers and Queer friendly Co-Sojourners about recently complaints related Corporate sponsorship of Gay / Queer events, such as Pride Parades, along the lines of "They only are our friends when they want our money". Usually bemoaning the commercialization.
They may have been exploiting us, but they LOVE our money, and now THEY are helping to fight back against queer-phobia.
Visibility even if commercially is GOOD!
@XSGeek
I am glad it works for you, and I do see both sides of the story -- rainbow-washing is not cool.
But I also know these companies have huge audiences that are being influenced by this sort of thing, regardless of the motivation. This too is a huge benefit!
I think... it's because the more and more people see and understand LGBTQ+ people the fewer and fewer people fear them, and the more and more ridiculous the culture-warriors look.
I think, visibility is important. Votes matter too.
@XSGeek
I got to hear from and really know trans people because of my company.
I consider this a privilege and a gift.
I got to make friends, real friends with gay people because of my company. Also a privilege and a gift.
I can't be the only one! Right? So imagine you work for Anhuisee
FUCK trying to spell that.
Bud Light. Imagine you work for them? And you don't know any trans people? But your company makes rainbow beer and now your co-workers talk about being trans.
Right? It's great!
@XSGeek
Their workers are also their audience, and when the person who is signing your paycheck says, "Hey. Let's be accepting of different lifestyles." That goes a long way for people who may not have had much experience or understanding.
If I'm butchering this verbally, forgive me, I hope you know what I mean in my heart.
