Voters who haven't voted since 2020 have been purged from the voter rolls. From :

*****

[V]oters who have not participated in any elections since 2020 ― either by voting or by signing a candidate or referendum petition ― have been removed from the "active" voter list, as a provision of state law the supervisor of elections implemented this year. The office sent affected voters a notice, and took them off the active list if they didn't respond within 30 days.

Whoops, this might backfire on Republicans ... According to the article about Brevard County:

*****

Bobanic in August mailed a letter to the 150,504 affected voters, and so far has gotten 41,813 requests from voters seeking to get back on the vote-by-mail mailing list. Of those requests, about 44.6% came from Democrats; 37.7% came from Republicans; and 17.7% came from voters who have no party affiliation or are members of a minor party.

If you live in , a reminder that the Republican legislature made it more difficult for you to vote by mail. You must re-register every two years to vote by mail, otherwise you'll be dropped from the mail list.

Well, it's official ... From Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) on Zombie Twitter:

*****

Kevin McCarthy will NOT be running again as Speaker.

I nominate Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the House.

Some media outlets are reporting that Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) has said he's going to nominate for Speaker. 🀣 🍿

reporting that a House Republican conference just broke up. Those inside say that Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) says he won't run again for Speaker in upcoming days.

EDIT ... MSNBC reporter just interviewed a Republican House member walking by. He confirmed McCarthy said he won't run again.

Today's House vote to oust Speaker McCarthy continues a trend in recent decades of Republicans eating their own.

Newt Gingrich -- resigned after an ethics violation reprimand and seats lost in the 1998 congressional election.

John Boehner -- resigned in October 2015 after losing the support of his conference.

Paul Ryan -- chose not to run for re-election in the 2018 mid-terms.

And then there's Dennis Hastert, who years later went to prison for sexual abuse of teenage boys.

From ... The only House speaker with a shorter term than McCarthy died in office. 🀣

*****

Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy served as House speaker for 269 days before being removed by a majority vote on Tuesday ...

The record for the shortest term is held by Rep. Michael C. Kerr of Indiana, who served as speaker for 257 days.

Kerr died in office of consumption on August 19, 1876.

BREAKING: Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) removed as House Speaker. The House votes 216-210 to remove him.

(Nobody voted Present.)

The vote is 216-206 to remove McCarthy. Will go through the roll again to call those who didn't vote the first time.

From :

"n the first vote series, there were five House Democrats absent, including Wilson. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Rep. Cori Bush are not expected to return to Washington, DC, for the vote."

Hmmm, Pelosi not present to vote yet, they skipped over her ...

The count is 99-100. Jeffries voted yes. Jordan voted no. Still counting.
