Good morning from the of .

It's the morning after last night's storm. I haven't seen any rain totals, but I'd guess easily 3"-4" here on the Space Coast. The winds are still gusting; we're forecast for 2o+ MPH winds today.

These are glossy ibis. You can't tell because it's overcast, but when the sunlight hits their feathers you get a purplish-green sheen.

A belated good morning from the of ... Up before sunrise to go cycling. The weather is about to turn windy and then chilly as a storm front passes through tonight.

Launch Complex 18 was abandoned long ago, but the remnants are still there. These are a few photos I took of Pad 18A and the blockhouse back in 2012. Back then, you could still see faint scorch marks on the concrete where the Vanguard rockets launched.

Fun fact ... The oldest human-made object in orbit is Vanguard 1, launch March 17, 1958. It should remain in orbit into the 2100s. (3/3)

Photos from last night's Fab Four concert in Melbourne. There are several tribute bands out there. The Fab Four is the best and it's not even close.

After the Shuttle program ended, for a couple years we were allowed to take tours inside the Launch Control Center, which was attached to the Vehicle Assembly Building by a bridge.

When we arrived, I always instructed my guests to look up, because I thought this was such a dramatic view -- and one not often seen by the public.

To the west of Cape Crossing, just south of the barge canal, is the Indianola Pioneer Cemetery. Some of Merritt Island's earliest Anglo settlers are buried here.

Lunch today at Dolphins on the Merritt Island barge canal.

The canal bisects Merritt Island. It was carved in the early 1950s to connect the Banana and Indian Rivers. Port Canaveral had just been completed; this was part of a vision to one day dig a canal from the Atlantic to the Gulf.

For those who have seen my Drawbridge of Fate photos, this is the drawbridge from below.

From a couple days ago ... Our coastline is peppered with crossovers, wooden bridges from neighborhoods to reach the Atlantic Ocean shoreline. This one is from the Harbor Woods neighborhood in Cape Canaveral.

The second photo is at the shoreline, looking left. Behind the Jetty Park Pier on the horizon is Launch Complex 36, the home of and one day their rocket.

I spotted this fishing trawler the other day offshore from Cape Canaveral. There's a port and harbor (through which the landed Falcon 9s return) to the left of where I'm standing.
