I made the right call, hitting the abort button on my morning cycle. It's pouring outside.
Good morning from the #SpaceCoast of #Florida . . . I was out cycling when the skies opened. I called an abort, as we say in the space biz.
Doing research ... I found that in the late 1950s there was a restaurant/bar in Cape Canaveral called the Cape-Ette. It appears to be today's La Cantina Mexican restaurant at 8803 N. Atlantic Avenue.
Apparently it was a popular hangout for workers striking contractors at the Cape. It also doubled as a local meeting hall; the City of Cape Canaveral didn't incorporate until 1963.
Doing research ... Found this in the March 31, 1958 Cocoa Tribune. The commanding officer at what today is Cape Canaveral Space Force Station predicted a crewed lunar flight in ten years. He was pretty much on the nose; Apollo 8 was ten years nine months after the article.
The path #Hurricane Ian took a year ago today, splitting the uprights between the two #NASA #KSC launch pads.
Some local Cape Canaveral flavor for your Wednesday ... This year is the 60th anniversary of the City of Cape Canaveral's incorporation. It was around for much longer as a geographic feature and community.
#Politics This week's "This Modern World" by Tom Tomorrow on Daily Kos.
Doing research, I came across this logo for the #SpaceCoast chapter of the AFL=CIO. I thought it's cute putting a #NASA Shuttle stack on the Cape in the logo.
#Space #SpaceCoast #BlueOrigin
According to the #FloridaToday article, it would launch "possibly before the end of the decade." Seven years later, still nowhere close.
#Space #SpaceCoast #BlueOrigin
The front page of #FloridaToday, seven years ago today ... Still nowhere close to launching.
@MLClark Back to your "socialism" column of a few days ago ... I'm going through #FloridaToday letters to the editor in February 2010, doing research for my book. I found this letter and it reminded me of your column.
A little late to the dance, but ... #ULA posted this prior to today's launch. I'm often asked, "Will I see the launch?" This would have helped.
The other common question is, "Will it launch?" My reply was, "I'll let you know when it leaves the pad." π
