Re: potential Gulf system next week:
-NHC with 20% chance
-Strong High pressure over US would send anything West fast
-Likely blob of moisture that may try to form Low
-Not a lot of model support but conditions favorable
-Increased coastal rain chances Mexico/TX for now

Lots of dry air around Hawaii, Tropical Storm #Greg & Hurricane #Fernanda Tuesday! Large areas of yellow/orange(dry) on mid-level water vapor satellite, green/white moisture. Greg overall disorganized, Fernanda expected to continue weakening.

Our two areas in Atlantic still low chance of tropical development as tons of dry air nearby (SAL).

Models show hints of possible Gulf of Mexico system Sunday/Monday...will watch to see if models continue to trend with that idea or not ('trend is your friend'). 15Aug2023

Tropical Storm #Greg expected to pass South of Hawaii this week as moves West. Hurricane #Fernanda continues to weaken, remnants may bring welcome rain chances to HI Sunday-Tuesday time period. Another system expected to develop near Baja bringing moisture into SW US. 15Aug2023

#Dora is now a Depression with 35mph (56km/h) winds. As seen in satellite image, it's disorganized, running into a TUTT (the spin next to the colored blob of Dora). Continues moving North away from Wake. Expected to dissipate this week. 15Aug2023

Tropical Storm #Greg has formed about 1,170miles (1,885km) East-Southeast of Hilo, Hawaii. Expected to continue generally West, passing HI well to the South. NWS Honolulu says only expect slight increase in trade winds with passing (not expecting another Dora).

Hurricane #Fernanda in East Pacific has continued its impressive rate of rapid intensification, now 125mph(205km/h) Cat3, forecast Cat4 soon. Expected to fall apart by weeks end.

May bring rains to Hawaii early next week as remnants pass through.

-Hurricane #Fernanda expected to weaken later this week, it's remnants may bring rain chances to Hawaii around 21Aug(+/-)
-Invest #99e expected to develop & move West, just South of Hawaii this week.

NHC monitoring tropical waves coming off Africa. Currently 2 areas, both low 20% development chance next 7 days. They'll be fighting dry air (SAL) also emerging into the Atlantic. EURO/GFS models say if develop then at weeks end but not really showing anything specific. 13Aug2023

Watching 3 potential systems in the Eastern and Central Pacific this week. One likely passes to the South of Hawaii, another may fall apart well East of Hawaii, and another form along Southwest Mexico. Precipitable Water image model thru Friday (amount of water in the air)12Aug23

Hurricane #Dora started it's journey mid July. Scattered showers moved off North Africa into the Atlantic where it was monitored for possible tropical development, finally developing just South of Mexico. Eventually traveling South of Hawaii and now into the Western Pacific. 12Aug2023

@NoahPaulLeGies Correct, Dora has crossed the International Date Line so considered to be in the Western Pacific instead of Central Pacific waters.

Hurricane #Dora is now a Typhoon (Hurricane, Typhoon and Cyclone the same, just different name in areas of the world) traveling between Midway, Wake, and Johnston Atoll. 12Aug2023
