Thursday morning sunrise reveals area in Eastern Atlantic is devoid of storms. Wind shear has blown them away. Remaining low level swirl of harmless clouds has entered an area of extremely dry air. Not expected to return. 25Apr2024 8aEDT/AST, 9aADT
NHC monitoring its first North Atlantic area of 2024 about 900miles (1450km) Northwest of Cabo Verde Islands in the Eastern Atlantic.
Entering high wind shear and dry air with displaced storms. Will fall part soon.
Reminder hurricane season is near.

Taking a look at history the Atlantic tends to form storms closer to home in May & June. Eastern Pacific can become busy along or offshore of South coast of Mexico.
Atlantic season starts 1June, daily updates from NHC begin 15May.

Why is a place in Colorado USA looking into Hurricanes? CSU has the most data driven backed predictions for each season that I have come across. Decades of science, historical data and current computer modeling. In the end: an above average season is what they're telling us. So you can make sure you are prepared.
CSU grabbed headlines this week calling for a very active 2024 Atlantic Hurricane season. Will likely see other groups call for above average season as well. NHC releases their numbers in late May. (1/2)
While numbers don't convey what storms hit where, key points can be made such as: -Above average water temperatures (Every degree matters to a Hurricane) -El Nino fading to La Nina (less wind shear Caribbean / Atlantic) -Higher chance more Westward reaching storms (US/Caribbean)
Just 45 days until the Eastern Pacific Hurricane season begins. (15May).
Also starting 15May daily Atlantic outlooks will restart and the season beginning 1June.
2023 Eastern Pacific Hurricane names #Dora (Hawaii wildfires) & #Otis (Acapulco, Mexico) have been retired. Will be replaced by Debora & Otilio in the six year rotation of storm names.
The decision, based on if storm considered so deadly, costly or too sensitive to use again, is made at the annual spring WMO meeting (World Metrological Organization - an international body focused on cooperation in meteorology & atmospheric sciences).
NHC issues Hurricane #Dora (2023) report. To be updated with additional information by Central Pacific Hurricane Center at later date.
Dora's presence helped tighten pressure gradient with High to the North indirectly increasing winds that spread devastating #Maui fire #HIwx #Hawaii

NHC 2024 annual hurricane product update announced. Key new features:
-AI generated Spanish translation of additional products for Atlantic/East Pacific(was humans at NWS Puerto Rico, if time allowed)
-Rainfall forecast maps for Central America & Caribbean(was US only)
-Easier to issue US Watch/Warnings (matches international now).
-Links to more info added to 'public advisory' text.
-Previously mentioned inland US Watch/Warnings to cone map(coming Aug2024)

Tropical Storm #Akara forms in the South Atlantic. Located about 900km East of Porto Alegre, Brazil. Last animation shows storm pulling tropical moisture from the North. 19Feb2024

Experimental version of cone map coming 15Aug. Adds inland Tropical Storm & Hurricane Watch/Warning (currently your local NWS office issues) (US only, other countries stay same with coastal watch/warning). Cone is more transparent as emphasis turns towards impact/risk. Cone shape/size does not determine risk, it's just average error in center point forecast track over last 5 years. East Pacific Hurricane Season comes to a close. 2023 season in 1min20sec:
Tropical Storm #Ramon in the Eastern Pacific is no more. Storms are just about gone. Mainly just a swirl of harmless clouds.
That about wraps up the 2023 Central/Eastern Pacific and Atlantic Hurricane season!
