No, it’s simpler than that.
Putin is buying their loyalty with money gifts and by making them exempt from allegations of corruption.
MPs become forever indebted to him personally and keep propping up his fascist regime in return.
They all think that by erecting a wall between themselves and the piss poor population they’ll be forever immune against anything.
Well, the population is used to behaving slavishly towards state officials for centuries, so it’s all going to work.

Russia's Treasury was forced to sell 3.6 tons of gold from the National Reserve for 2.3 billion Chinese yuans because of a catastrophic drop in sales of oil and natural gas.

It is Russia's biggest attempt to counter a budget deficit the size of which they haven't seen since 1998.

How cool would it be to wake up one morning and read in the news that Putin tripped while walking down a perfectly flat corridor and broke his neck after falling out of a basement window.

I wouldn't question one word of such a news report. Not a single word.

The wife of former Ukrainian MP Medvedchuk, who's famous for being Putin's "brother-in-law" because they christened each others children or something like that and whom Putin planned to install as a puppet "president" of Ukraine, is financing the Rosgvardia (the Russian Guard) military organization through companies registered in occupied Crimea.

My mom received a bill from the cell operator for traffic she’d used of WhatsApp calls while out and then blamed me for activating Wi-Fi on her phone because in her mind that is what made her get that bill somehow.
After futile attempts at defending my innocence I gave up, and we haven’t spoken since yesterday 😂
