Russian media today and yesterday evening is full of reports of an ongoing “invasion of Moldova by Ukrainian armed forces”.

It is complete bullshit, of course. The region in question is the so-called “independent Transnistria” which is a proxy quasi-state Russia created in 1992 by placing an army there and effectively stealing land from Moldova.

@Vonzales: Yeah, they're looking for that additional front for Ukraine to have to defend.

@Vonzales It would seem to me that some kind of a joint public presentation by Zelensky and the Moldovan President would quash these fears at least in the west. I don't know about Moldovan politics, but in this situation I would seriously think about asking them to clean up our mutual problem.

@danielbsmith
Joint appearances would allow Russia to throw accusations at Moldova of having "violated their Constitutionally required neutrality".

And that would fuel pro-ruskie crowds inside Moldova, who are ALREADY accusing the government of "dragging us into war".

So, no, can't be done.
