#Innewsoftheabsurd Evangelical #Christian leader Russell Moore revealed this week that many evangelical pastors have become alarmed that their Trump-loving congregants have become so militant that they are even rejecting the teachings of Jesus Christ. #religion https://www.rawstory.com/trump-evangelicals-2663078391/
@danielbsmith and what you have left still attending church are contributing to Christian Nationalism and Far Right...
@Victor I think that is changing. The ones who will ultimately leave are the Trump supporters. He's a felon and everyone knows it. They have no reason to stay if they are devoted to Trump and every incentive to leave. The opposite is true for true believers. Some churches will fail. Others will split. But many will survive with their flocks intact. This is a necessary process for God will not allow corruption to exist in his house forever.
@danielbsmith Appreciate your optimism. Yet, religious leaders are aware of the radicalization of Christianity and specifically a segment of it. This association with Southern and White supremacy has always been there and it is becoming an existential threat. https://religionnews.com/2021/02/25/the-creeping-radicalization-of-white-evangelicals/
@Victor Where Trump is supported by the local pastorate it may continue. But the rest is basic human psychology:
If Trump is their deity then why do they need to go to church? Trump rallies are their communion with the orange god.
Ultimately this is a house cleaning. The non-believers are going to fall away. This actually already started when COVID19 stopped churches from gathering together. Many of those people never went back.
Now if only they would stop identifying as Christian.
@Victor The percentage of Americans identifying as Christian will go down. It must. These people were not actually Christian anyway so there's not really any loss here. We're just rectifying our statistics to match reality.
Then finally people will be able to see and recognize MAGA for what they are and the church for what it isn't.
@danielbsmith
1. Unfortunately, the world sees no difference between Trump Christians & Christianity as a whole. Christianity has had a huge PR problem way before TFG and it is only getting worse.
2. A large % of Christians still attending church is composed primarily of older Americans w/ younger generation staying away in large numbers. So, I don't think that Christianity is doing well. https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2019/10/17/in-u-s-decline-of-christianity-continues-at-rapid-pace/
3. It's only a matter of time before Christianity will be a minority as in Europe.
@Victor Your points are largely correct except for the last. Christianity is already a minority in America IMO. There's a general spiritual sense but people that identify as Christian is higher than the actual count and has been for a decades. I think what's happening with Donald Trump and MAGA is a reset that was sorely needed.
As a believer, I want to emphasize the differences per your number one. More and more I see MAGA and Trumpism referred to as Christian fascism and I'm thankful.
FAFO, @Victor 🙄
@Victor
I predicted that there would come a point where the so called "religious right" would feel empowered enough that they would no longer have an actual need for the church. Not long now.
@Victor the church of trump...… Cult of Personality
@Victor yup
@Victor
This world really needs to do away with organized religion. It is, after all, against the Bible
@justsaywhy Organized religion has always been a "wolf in sheep's clothing" and religion itself has and will continue to be based on "faith". Faith acts as a placebo. Nothing wrong with it but it is more of a personal issue...faith, that is...
@Victor
Most sane people saw this coming when Reagan was elected in 1980. It's the natural consequence of politicising religion.
They decided to mix the two together, and now are alarmed that both are a steaming pile of 💩 .
@Krysdammit Agree. Reagan courted not only Evangelicals but the South as well and embraced them wholeheartedly. A match made in hell...
@Victor
Reagan, Thatcher, & Mulroney are unholy trinity.
Mulroney's still alive & not as insane as the other 2.
He helped our Feds renegotiate NAFTA (it was originally signed under his watch in '87, then included Mexico in '88).
Hates Trudeau & would've done a lot of damage to 3 countries for spite.
I loathe him slightly less now.😂
I was raised RC. Idiots, expecially in USA, teamed up with Evangelicals over abortion.
As far as I'm concerned, there is 0 difference between them now.🤬
@Victor Not surprising. God is separating the wheat from the chaff. Those that love Trump cannot love God.
