Yes. The very reason I never forced my kids to comply with adults saying, "Give me a hug!". I remember being told , "Shame on you! You're hurting ____'s feelings!" Which resulted in me feeling like I was misbehaving if I refused. Which put me in some effed up situations.
@VaGyver "Oh, relax. We're just playin'." Grrrrrr. So many bad things happen because we are trained like this. Bless My Favorite Murder for getting the phrase "fuck politeness" into my head in direct connection with the harm that comes to women because of our training. It makes it so much easier to fight the lingering internal shame at "rudeness".
