Hey folks. Let’s play a game. Anybody know what this thing is? It is attached to a key fob from a used car I just bought. My lovely bride didn’t show it to me till we got home. The dealer is closed now and I can’t contact them until tomorrow. It appears to be a key of some kind. The IC board makes me think it is an electronic lock. It’s driving me nuts. All guesses and reverse image search results are welcome. Thanks!

A current guess is that it’s part of the dealers key/vehicle check out/check in system. No definite winner yet.

@Urbankidx4 I have no idea, but now you’ve got me curious! Let us know what you find out

@Urbankidx4 that's a good guess. the groove in the plastic below the circuit board does look like it slides in somewhere and the contacts complete a circuit or something

@Urbankidx4 you're definitely right. look up "electronic key management". I couldn't see the exact one, but plenty similar.

@Urbankidx4

I suspect a USB-connected inventory management and key control system that they forgot to remove from the key before giving it to the customer.
