former USArmy Capt. Harry Hardman — who lives right up the road from Ft. Liberty/Bragg seems to have gotten a heavy dose of radiation before going bananas and murdering his neighbors — and their dog.

@Kinnison You have to ask, how much of the command cadre is a ticking bomb?

@TwiHusband @Kinnison
Another MAGA person, a former mayor in a small town in Minnesota threatened to kill University of Minnesota students this weekend but swat officers arrested him before he hurt anyone. Why students?

@Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @TwiHusband @Kinnison Having lived in a college town I witnessed just how much the locals dislike students. In fairness to locals, students tend to come in temporarily and make permanent changes that locals are left to live with whether they like it or not. However, locals need to remember that students drive their economy. We won’t talk about riots after a sports team loses (or wins) that causes much property damage, we several of those.

@cjcrew @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @Kinnison Depends on the town and the region. I worked for the University in a medium sized city in Ohio for 28 years.The locals were cool with it. Same up in Ann Arbor, another college town.

The problem is the cow colleges. Rural people are generally intolerant of education, especially any education that doesn't support their prejudices. "Jesus may love you, but he says I can, and should, hate you."

@cjcrew @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @Kinnison I live in Kentucky now, in a rural area that is rapidly turning non-rural, & I see it every day. The yokels are angry & bitter. They could give a flying fuck about industrial development or their tax base. They want their dry county and their KKK power back.

Economically it's the same as the migrant labor these idiots need to work their farms. They elect Nazis, and wonder why the migrant fieldworkers stopped coming.

@Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @cjcrew @Kinnison Oh, the racism too. I work retail part time to supplement retirement. Had a teenage white boy working with me. One day he was spouting his take on relationships. Said he wanted a black or biracial girlfriend. Why? I quote, "Because they're easier to control and less trouble". These rural white kids have seriously fucked up ideas about humanity and their place in it.

@TwiHusband @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @Kinnison Oh they are going insane around here over the asylum seekers being bused in. Cities are trying to come up with legal reasons to refuse them entry and the racists are foaming at the mouth about them coming in and taking all the jobs and the white women.

I just dropped my subscription to the local paper that keep posting opinion pieces by MAGAts and hyping up all that brown skinned people fear. It’s vile, and nauseating.

@TwiHusband @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @Kinnison We don’t speak of that AA town. 😎

I was in East Lansing, we got a bit wild there for a while. Until the police started seizing video from security cameras and social web sites then posting photos in the newspaper asking for names. Then the University started expelling those caught at the riots.

The last few actually attracted people across the state thanks to social media, possibly from across the country.

It’s calmed down quite a bit.

@TwiHusband @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @Kinnison Yeah I miss living in a city that’s influenced by the college, it makes a world of difference.

In the Greater Lansing area there really are both attitudes. The shooting that happened a year or two ago I think demonstrated some of the negative attitude many have toward the college. I don’t know for sure that this was his motive but that’s how I saw it.

@TwiHusband @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @Kinnison Small rural towns are very insulted from the outside. They tend to have that clan mentality but like everywhere there are a few souls who value education, science and actually caring about each other.

@TwiHusband @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @Kinnison Michigan State was one of the first land grant college in the nation and originally they were named Michigan Agricultural College. There is a street in East Lansing named MAC Street and there is/was (don’t know if they tore it down or not, there was talk about doing so) a smoke stack on campus that has MAC on it.

It’s a beautiful campus, many different parks, wooded areas, the Red Cedar River and a lot of wildlife.
