A major rockslide led to large boulders blocking part of I-8 near Ocotillo, CA. California Highway Patrols are directing traffic around the debris and part of the interstate is now closed due to the damage. #cawx #hurricanehilary

Add to that the ongoing rain that is supposed to become intense during the next hour, and we have a recipe for landslides and flood disasters.

KTLA is reporting 6 aftershocks east of Ojai in the Simi Valley area where it's storming heavily.

A 5.1 quake can cause minor to moderate damage to structures near the epicenter, especially older structures. It's not unusual for the epicenter to have a communicatons blackout until services are restored.
I suspect we'll get pictures of merchandise down in stores, broken windows here and there, perhaps a collapsed chimney on an older home. But it will take time.

All day gray overcast and just now started softly raining. Radar shows more rain east of us, east of Death Valley. Sandbags in place ✅ Gallons of water bought ✅ Tree branch noticed overhanging electric lines removed ✅ #MojaveDesert #Hilary Better to overestimate this one 🌀
