How will Florida Homeowner's Insurance deal with this, considering they did so well with Hurricane Ian?

All eyes on Palm Springs and Death Valley California

Hurricane Hilary could reach its finale in Death Valley. What a way to go.

The High Risk for flash flooding has been expanded to include much of the Inland Empire and Death Valley, including Riverside and San Bernardino. 3.5 million people are now in the high-risk zone.

Life-threatening and potentially catastrophic flooding is likely.

Two tidbits from
@NWSVegas
discussion:
▪️ Especially concerned for historical rain in Death Valley National Park, will greatly challenge infrastructure.
▪️ Precipitable water values near 2" in Las Vegas, even brief showers can produce intense rainfall rates & flash flooding.

Last year’s event that closed all roads, many for months:

Death Valley Experiences 1,000 Year Rain Event

“The 1.46 inches of rain recorded at Furnace Creek is still preliminary data, and mere drops away from the all-time record of 1.47 inches.”

@Kimmycott It will be interesting to see what that kind of water does at this time of year.

There's a difference between 6-10" of rain in the deserts as opposed to in the Southern US.

The desert soil, combined with lack of grass/flowers, does not absorb moisture - it simply runs off. As a result, catastrophic flooding is likely with that kind of rainfall.

@AlphaCentauri The Parks are getting ready for a mud disaster. Even if they get a couple of inches, that will be a mess for them.

@Kimmycott I would certainly relish another super bloom, but the timing is off. Spring moisture ignites seeds, what will late summer flooding do?

What will 4-8" do in Death Valley? Besides lots of mud. There is no place for water to go.

Awesome that after pushing 130°F weeks ago, Death Valley is forecast to get 4-8" rainfall from a hurricane.

Death Valley forecast through Tuesday: ~3-4" of rain.

Total Death Valley rain since Jan. 2021 (2.5 years): 3.55"

issued for SoCal & Las Vegas as hurricane Hilary heads our way. Flash floods expected: San Bernardino, Inyo counties, Death Valley & Morongo Basin, according to National Weather Service. Prepare now!
