I've got a child who's a college student.

He does not attend an Ivy League school, but he is in college, working a job and earning a degree.

He has zero interest in protesting.

And, I know for a fact he's friends with both Muslim and Jewish people... so it's not like he's predisposed to hate one or the other. His school is diverse -- prides itself on diversity, in fact.

And no protests.

The protests seem to be happening mostly on the elite campuses, including here. Why? 🤔

I've been googling and talking to people, and the protests are at the closest thing we've got to Ivy League universities, but for the less elite universities, there seems to be no protests, and I'm trying to understand why.

And don't come at me with "those kids are too stupid to get into an elite university, that's why they're not protesting." That's not true.

We're working to get him a degree with no debt, and he is also working his butt off, as are his fellow students. They are not stupid.

I'd boil it down to money. The bigger universities have more political influence and make lots of investments. The protests and the crackdowns are basically a fight over how the universities use their money.
