So I did my absolute first in my near 45 years of existence
I ran a full 1.5 miles without dying. I could t do this as a kid and I definitely couldnt do this as an adult.
That's a huge deal for me.
@Ruthat it's weird because it wasn't planned. I do treadmill after every workout (except leg day for obvious reasons) and I'm walking. I got my Guns N Roses in my ear and I was listening to this one song. This speed I set the treadmill is how fast the song is. I'd move the speed if I was listening to say, welcome to the jungle but I'd drop the speed for November Rain (until the finale). Well Garden of Eden came on and it's insanely fast so I jacked the speed up. Next thing ya know I'm running

Huzzah!
@Helical_Code there's a 5k and a 15k marathon every year in my city (usually late July). I plan on doing the 5k for my long term goal and if I make it through with only a scratch (figuratively speaking) I'm gonna attempt the 15 in '26
@Timmah1979
Sounds like a great goal and contingency plan. We are here to share in your joy!
@Helical_Code if my app is correct I should have another 20 dropped by Dec 31 (goal is 40 where I'd be comfortably in my mind) but obviously if I'm leaning out (which I want) I can work with the 20-30
@Helical_Code we'll see where I'm at come December. I'm just happy to be running. Lol. Guess I gotta invest in good running shoes. My Dr is gonna be like what the hell happened lol
@Helical_Code so now I've made a bet (I gotta stop this lol) I'm. Still friends with my old gym teacher. Known him since I was 7 years (so a long time lol) he literally watched me grow up elementary, jr high and high school. Don't ask how that happened. Anyways I told him what I'm doing and he's like maybe. (About the 5k) So I told him if I hit 210 by Dec 31 you gotta run it with me. If I don't, your off the hook
@Helical_Code he's still fairly young (63) so he can do it π€£
@Timmah1979
This is all so great! And you're right - 63 is not too old for a 5K if conditioning has been ongoing. π
@Helical_Code he's in good shape. I think he can still go and the fact that we from student/teacher to friends as adults says a lot. I still can't call him by his first name though. He tells me at this point in life I can (and tried) and it just doesn't seem right to refer to him at Mr (or coach since he was a football coach at the school as well). He's inadvertently coaching again π€£. So let's hope I hit the weight goal so he can't back out lol.
@Timmah1979 ππ½ππ½ππ½ππ½ππ½πππ½ππ½ππ½ππ½That is a Huge Deal! Congratulations! I can walk that but running, not so much. Stay hydrated!
@ACG2 oh I am. I dont drink anything except coffee and water. Today I cheated and had energy drink (haven't had one since maybe Feb) not bc I needed it. I just had the taste for one then I ended up drinking a liter of water π€£
@Timmah1979
Congrats. Iβm slowly getting more active myself. Did some shuffling meds with my doc earlier in the year and went thru a period of inactivity and discomfort which ignited the thought, if I can shed 20-30 I can probably stop taking these meds. So that is a goal this next year
@Beerdini that's awesome. I've dropped 25 of the 30 I've gained the last month. I still have prob another 35 I wanna drop. When I see these improvements and having a good support system, especially here, keeps me motivated.
Injuries and previous jobs work schedule gave me excuses. The way things are set up with the new job and what I take for the pain, I have no excuses now. I hate quoting this band but Limp bizkit said it's best. Keep rollin rollin rollin lol
@Timmah1979 Keep it up! You'll be doing a Turkey Trot by Thanksgiving.
