Driving my EV from Missouri to Florida is an adventure. Even more so with my anxious doggo and my mother. No one needs this kind of excitement after midnight. No one.

@TheRealDelia

I really want an EV, but I was wondering about road trips. You can't just fill up and keep driving.

What has your experience been?

@BlueStateBabe Mostly good. Driving from Missouri to Minnesota is a breeze.

But going to Florida has been a little rocky. We’ve had two charging stations that didn’t work and had to drive elsewhere. Another was in a parking lot that was fenced off in the evenings, but our trip planning app didn’t tell us that we couldn’t use it. If we had left earlier in the morning or planned better for our place to sleep for the night, this issue could have been avoided.

@BlueStateBabe GM has put in fast chargers at dealerships across the country, and that’s been fantastic. They work. They’re priced right, and they’re quick.

The biggest issue is the season. Battery life goes way down in the cold. So if we were traveling in winter, I’d never have taken this car. In the summer, we get nearly twice the distance on the same amount of charge.

With good planning, the car is great for travel. Stops are an hour, which is healthy anyway.
