October Halloween Story Time

The Late Night Passenger

Ben had been driving for hours down an empty stretch of highway, the radio playing softly to keep him awake. It was past midnight, and the road seemed endless, shrouded in fog. He hadnโ€™t seen another car for miles, and his eyelids were growing heavy.

Suddenly, from the corner of his eye, he saw a figure standing by the side of the roadโ€”just a woman, dressed in white, holding out her thumb for a ride. Startled, Ben slowed the car, glancing in the rearview mirror. The road was deserted, and the figure seemed out of place, but he felt a strange pull to stop.

As he pulled over and rolled down the window, the woman didnโ€™t move toward him. She just stood there, staring. Her face was pale, almost translucent, with hollow eyes that didnโ€™t seem quite right. Something was off.

โ€œDo you need a ride?โ€ Ben asked, his voice shaky.

The woman slowly nodded but didnโ€™t speak.

A chill ran down his spine, and he hesitated. Before he could say another word, she vanished. Right thereโ€”gone in an instant.

Ben blinked, heart pounding. Maybe he was more tired than he thought. Shaking his head, he pulled back onto the road, glancing in the rearview mirror again, just to be sure.

And then he froze.

The woman was sitting in the backseat, staring directly at him through the mirror, her hollow eyes locked on his.

She leaned forward, her voice a cold whisper: โ€œYou shouldnโ€™t have stopped.โ€
