Hawaii locals fear the impact of the Mauna Loa eruption as lava oozes closer to a main highway

@TheNewsOwl Hereβs a photo of me on the βold highwayβ on the Big Island of Hawaii showing what happens when lava makes its way to the ocean. In the 1980s, (I believe thatβs the timeframe), the US Army Corps of Engineers issued a request for proposals to design and build lava diversion structures. As a geologist, I had to laugh because molten rock is a daunting force on a downhill journey.

@TheNewsOwl Iβm hoping the lava flow doesnβt reach the road.
Unfortunately, hope does not stop lava.
