Anyone who would accuse me of not having my finger on the pulse of modern popular culture should know that I just drew a comic that contains a reference to the mating dance episode of 'Dinosaurs.'
@danialexis LOL! That’s hilarious, and I’m wondering if the reactions are equally funny. (I was honestly expecting ‘90s slang, not ‘40s slang.)
@TheCard Sometimes I give them 90s slang, but they seem baffled. I'm not sure they recognize it as having once been slang yet.
I also once ended an argument over the best 90s hip-hop album by saying "You're both wrong, the answer is The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and I know because I was sitting right where you are now when it dropped."
(That one got me a "Wait, how old are you?!?!") 😆
@TheCard The best one, of course, was when I asked if the kids still said "fetch" and the entire marching band staff yelled "stop trying to make fetch a thing."
@danialexis LOL! I’m not even familiar with “fetch” as slang, so I applaud your commitment to going as far back as possible.
@danialexis Just the mention of that album makes me nostalgic. It dropped right before I started high school. (I didn’t own it, but I was familiar with a lot of the songs on it.)
@TheCard One of my favorite things to do to my students is to use obviously outdated slang, then act like it's totally current.
"If you finish by the end of the week, that'd be the bees' knees. Do the kids still say "the bees' knees"? I'm pretty sure they do."
