WA UPDATE!

Stopped by the main post office in Tacoma, to drop off a small postage paid box. Check this out... the monster mailbox inside the post office was locked down! Huge line-up at the counter. One clerk visible. Wouldn'tlook in my direction. So I shouted out: "I've got a post paid tiny box... do I need to wait in line here? Clerk looks up and jerks her head to the opposite corner. One medium box, over flowing with postpaid mail. I put my box at the top & left.

@TheAbbotTrithemius I received a letter last week that took a month to go 90 miles.F### the U.S.P.S.

@TheAbbotTrithemius That implies some pretty major changes to their logistics. At least in denser urban areas those blue boxes are distribution nodes; local mail is trucked to them and dropped off in a bag for the carrier. The hubs and spokes constitute the ZIP codes. Curious.

@TheAbbotTrithemius

this happened in Texas. They even blocked the slots of 4 mailboxes right outside the Post Office. You had to return your vote during post office hours at the post office.

Near me, several years back, they had removed all the convenient mailboxes. Then they moved them to an inconveniently distant corner which now had 3 to 5 mailboxes on it.

Then they complain that nobody uses mail anymore and they increase the price of stamps.

More recent mailbox removal piece fromJuly 2023:

“As crime rises, so do the threats against our public servants,” said Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer Louis DeJoy. “The men and women of the Postal Service are walking our nation’s streets every day to fulfil our mission of delivering mail and packages to the American people. Every Postal employee deserves to work in safety and to be free from targeting by criminals seeking to access the public’s mail.”

I’ve personally never had a problem with using the blue boxes and I use them monthly and there has been zero snnouncement about this.

Incredibly the last time they tried this was exactly 4 years ago in August of 2020:

Follow-up on Mailbox weirdness:

Local USPS Postal Office official states:

“Due to the many complaints we are receiving regarding mail theft, we’re shutting down and will be removing blue mail boxes, people can give mail to their mail carrier or go to their local post-office.”

Me: “There’s no mail box outside this post office…”

PO Official: “Yes, we had to remove that one due to theft also.”

Me: “will this be happening in other neighborhoods and other states.”

PO Person: “Yes.”

Me: “…..”

Voting by mail alert.🚨

USPS: Mailbox weirdness

Tried to mail a letter at 4 different mailboxes within a mile of one anothwr yesterday in Bklyn, NYC.

All 4 had were obstructed behind the slot that made it impossible to insert a letter (or anything). Also their labels w/ PU times were scratched out.

Which is all to say, check your local mailboxes are in working order. You can easily feel the obstruction with your fingers or try a piece of junk mail.

Considering DeJoy’s shenanigans in 2020...

Ted Gioia's Substack:

Expect Heavy Turbulence for the Next 5 Months

"If I were a commercial pilot, I’d tell you to return to your seats and buckle up.

I anticipate extreme turbulence on every front for the remaining five months in 2024. You will see it in politics, business, economics, culture, world affairs, the stock market, and maybe even your own neighborhood."

“It seems to me what is called for is an exquisite balance between two conflicting needs: the most skeptical scrutiny of all hypotheses that are served up to us and at the same time a great openness to new ideas ... If you are only skeptical, then no new ideas make it through to you ... On the other hand, if you are open to the point of gullibility and have not an ounce of skeptical sense in you, then you cannot distinguish the useful ideas from the worthless ones.”
