The Newpaper Axis by Kathryn Olmsted
"It would be comforting to think that such irresponsible journalism is a historical relic. But the parallels with today’s right-wing media, on both sides of the Atlantic, are unavoidable: displaying apathy or sympathy toward brutal dictators (see Putin, Vladimir), deriding efforts to address legitimate threats (see pandemic, coronavirus) as schemes by liberal elites to control the population."
The irony here is so thick...
Like the isolationist owners of those anti-Semitic papers from the 30s and 40s (The Daily News, Chicago Tribune, Washington TImes-Herald and the Hearst papers) that appeased Hitler. Bezos and the WaPo can now be included in the present day appeasing version of the "Newspaper Axis". Cowardly appeasing fascist Turdmp and giving him incredible power with their *anticipatory obedience*.
* Tim Snyder's term to describe societal obedience to fascism and tyranny.
