In fictional time: 25 years ago today -- on September 13, 1999 -- the Moon was blown out of Earth's orbit, flinging it and Moonbase Alpha into the vastness of space. Alpha's crew's adventures were detailed in two seasons of SPACE: 1999 (September 4, 1975 – November 12, 1977).

Perhaps it was just too awesome to do a 2nd season?

I was a kid watching these things in rerun and Space 1999 seemed more serious.Is it worth a rewatch?

@TheAbbotTrithemius There's a YouTube video about the transition from UFO to SPACE:1999. I don't recall the particulars.

SPACE:1999 has not aged well. But the concepts it tried to tackle, particularly in the first season, make it worth a re-watch in my opinion.
