This is killer interpretation on piano, listen to the counterpoint!
Brad Mehldau Plays The Beatles' "I Am the Walrus
They’re bedrock. The ur-band myth that launched a bazillion bands and inspired so much great original music.
Haven’t seen the salt-n-pepper set.
To be honest, I will avoid a lot Beatles music because I’m just too burnt out on it and this is one of the songs I would avoid a cover of, but gave it a listen and I’m glad I did, he keeps the original melody intact but evokes so much playing around it and against it and making it utterly transcendent and startling new.
@TheAbbotTrithemius Holy wow, that was amazing!
It just hit me a couple of days ago how odd it is that a band that broke up over half a century ago is still so relevant and ubiquitous. Then at Guitar Center yesterday (son was picking up his new electric guitar), I wandered around and noted all the Beatles-related stuff. Songbooks/music for many different instruments and skill lvls, of course, but also lunchboxes, mugs, stickers, guitar picks, a Yellow Submarine salt-and-pepper set…you name it.
