So If I understand American Politics (which I often don't), now they got a vote in a new speaker, which likely won't be, but could be McCarthy again. What I don't understand is how just yesterday or so, a senator or law-maker or whatever was saying that everything was tied up because of Matt Gaetz and only him. So what, Matt Gaetz has the power all by himself to oust the speaker? Je comprends pas.
@misslovelymess a chaos of their own making sheesh
@Stevo
Part of the concessions McCarthy made to become Speaker was to agree to change procedural rules so that any House Rep could file a motion to trigger a vote to remove the Speaker at any time. This is exactly what Gaetz did… most likely purely for the media attention he’s receiving now… 🤷🏽♀️🍿
@Stevo In order to get the votes to become Speaker, as I understand it, McCarthy agreed to side with some people on reducing the number of votes you need to do other things, including oust the speaker.
@Stevo To get the Speakership he had to agree to all of these crazy resolutions. One of which is anyone, at anytime, can call a vote for his removal. First time ever in US politics.
