4. Richard Dawson – "Polytunnel". Low-fi folk from English singer-songwriter about working in the garden. Deceptively simple, the tune meanders through several different sections and Dawson's entire vocal range. Fearless. #music

3. Mary Timony – "Curious Tides". Really two songs: an acoustic raga gives way after two minutes to a Heliumesque alternative rock raveup. #music

2. Chastity Belt – "That Guy". Walla Walla's Chastity Belt carry on the tradition of rockin' all-woman jangle pop groups extending back to Salem 66 and Scrawl (to name two of my personal faves). #music

1. LCD Soundsystem – "X-Ray Eyes". I came late to the LCD Soundsystem party, but if this headbobbing earworm is any indication, it's a party that's still in full swing. #music

Has a presidential campaign ever crashed and burned this hard? Dukakis, Mondale, McGovern certainly lost by more than Ronald McGarbageman here is likely to, but did they humiliate themselves so defiantly before even making it to Election Day? It would be like if Dukakis wore that army helmet at every speech for the rest of the campaign and started to graffiti it with penises and "I'm with stupid" arrows pointing down at himself.

1. Lots of Hands – "Game of Zeroes". Mixing keyboard washes like the ones The Cure perfected on "Close to Me" (you can hear them better in the horn-free mix) with the ramshackle drums and guitar of indie rock, Newcastle-upon-Tyne's Lots of Hands comes up with a charmer here. #music

Issue #8 of TYPO, the great journal of surrealist and other experimental literature, is now available at Amazon from Black Scat Books. Two of my hypnopompic diary poems from "Apophenic Epiphanies" are included thanks to editor Norman Conquest. Check it out! #poetry
Just saw Biden referred to as "Sir-Not-Actually-A-Candidate-In-This-Election" and I'm dying. 🤣 #MontyPythonReference
I took a day off work today and signed up to make calls to get swing state voters to the polls for Kamala Harris. I encourage others to do the same. https://campaigns.moveon.org/2024-election/
Confession time: I'm a 57-year-old white man who's never taken an active role in an election before, although I've of course voted and engaged in other actions (writing letters to editors, calling Congresspeople, participating in demonstrations and boycotts, etc.) But I've seen the damage Donald Trump has done to this country for the past nine years, and I will do everything that's legally and ethically within my power to make sure he never gets anywhere near the White House again.

There are 10 days left until Election Day and polling on control of the White House remains so close that the best way to think of it is TIED. It's neither impossible nor inevitable that either candidate can win. That means we can all still influence the outcome by voting, getting our friends and family to vote, and donating to or volunteering for the candidates we want to see in office next year.
The warnings that a second Trump presidency would be catastrophic are coming from *everywhere*: people who've worked for him, national security experts, economists, doctors, psychologists, legal and Constitutional experts. Whatever qualms or doubts you may have about a Kamala Harris presidency evaporate when you place them next to the certainty of disaster if Trump regains power. This is not a Democrat-vs.-Republican election. This is literally a democracy-vs.-fascism election.
