There are those who want to take all the people in the non-straight and non-cis categories and automatically put them in the pedophile and groomer categories. That's category conflation, it's false, and it's rooted in bigotry, no matter what its advocates claim. 2/2

Let's talk about category conflation. Example: some straight people are pedophiles who groom children, but most are not. Same with gay people, cis people and trans people. Sexual orientation is one set of categories and gender identity is a different set of categories. 1/2

The mass shooting in CO Springs demonstrates the urgency of social media companies getting content moderation right. The research draws a clear line between hate speech and hate crime, and these platforms have a responsibility to disallow hate speech. We've established a right to free speech in America, and it's an important one. But it's not the only important one, and using it to take away other people's right to live and be safe is unacceptable.
