I spent the loveliest afternoon with writing friends. Often, I only get to see my writing friends at events, and we're both working (networking, selling, etc.) while we're there, so we don't get to just talk freely. Where do you get your social time with writers in your life? #CoSoWriters
@Samanthabwriter I'm just starting to see writing friends in person. I have been keeping in touch through virtual events. I attend a monthly online writer's meeting. We talked about returning to in-person meetings, but our driving times were so long that we decided to stay virtual. I am attending an in-person writer's retreat in May, and an in-person conference in November.
@TPrice Same for me, mostly, though convention life began reopening last year, so I'm getting more in-person opportunities again. I both love them and am worn out by them.
@TPrice @Samanthabwriter I am older and asthmatic, and my spouse is on meds that contraindicate the use of Paxlovid. I am not doing in-person events for the forseeable future. Virtual events only, and I'm distressed by the degree that they're going away.
@joycereynoldsward @TPrice yes! There for a while, there were SO MANY available. I appreciate the places that are keeping virtual options alive, or making live events hybrid, so they can be participated in from home. I definitely understand the need for caution!
@joycereynoldsward @Samanthabwriter
I understand. I still prefer hybrid events myself. Don't be afraid to speak up when groups say they are returning to in-person. Most have developed the tools and expertise to go hybrid. I've had success in asking them to remain so. After I talked to them, two groups I'm active in decided to retain the virtual option.
@TPrice @Samanthabwriter alas, however, that isn't true for some science fiction conventions. I've brought up hybrid and been told by three smaller regional conventions that they can't do it. And those are the three conventions I've regularly attended in the past.
SIGH.
@joycereynoldsward @TPrice Yes, the smaller cons I frequent have offered *some* content via video, but generally, it's been filming the live content and airing it on YouTube. Not truly hybrid.
@Samanthabwriter @TPrice oh, these folks aren't even doing that.
@Samanthabwriter these days, online only.
