I will never understand why planning for a funeral, which is bad enough, brings out the absolute worst in people.....maybe I'm naive, thinking that the death of someone you know will bring people together....maybe it's grief guiding people.

Or, more likely, some of my relatives are absolute arseholes.

Family, eh? 🙄

@MichaelRLaverty I think part of the reason is that many people are simply uncomfortable with the reality of death. Therefore their stress level goes up and they simply want it all over with.

@Graci I can honestly never think of a funeral I've been directly/indirectly involved in where it hasn't blown up. Just blows my mind.

But, yeah, the reality of death hits in different ways. And it doesn't help when the whole process has been dragged out a wee bit too long.

@MichaelRLaverty Admittedly I haven't been to many funerals. I don't like the atmosphere, the awkwardness, the phoniness. And yes, I think every one I've been to has involved some conflict.

@Graci I think that the fact that my cousin took his own life, has, understandably, added an extra layer of pain to the whole thing.

And, being a non practicing Catholic, don't get me started on the sheer doom involved in a funeral.

(Side note - I have always said, if and when I go, I want an all singing, all dancing send-off. Might as well go out with a positive way of things 👍🏻)
