I will never understand why planning for a funeral, which is bad enough, brings out the absolute worst in people.....maybe I'm naive, thinking that the death of someone you know will bring people together....maybe it's grief guiding people.
Or, more likely, some of my relatives are absolute arseholes.
Family, eh? 🙄

@MichaelRLaverty I think part of the reason is that many people are simply uncomfortable with the reality of death. Therefore their stress level goes up and they simply want it all over with.
@MichaelRLaverty Admittedly I haven't been to many funerals. I don't like the atmosphere, the awkwardness, the phoniness. And yes, I think every one I've been to has involved some conflict.
@MichaelRLaverty Oh yeah. Suicides taint everything. I've been to 2 of those and everyone carries an extra load of guilt.
I agree with your side note. I don't want a funeral or anything where people who didn't give a damn about me can pretend they did.
@Graci it should be a celebration - more colour and joy, the better it will be!
@MichaelRLaverty Can we bring glitterballs and sequined one-piece lounge suits? @Graci
@stueytheround @Graci more extravagant the better!
@MichaelRLaverty @Graci Ah...Catholic the religion of guilt.
@Graci I think that the fact that my cousin took his own life, has, understandably, added an extra layer of pain to the whole thing.
And, being a non practicing Catholic, don't get me started on the sheer doom involved in a funeral.
(Side note - I have always said, if and when I go, I want an all singing, all dancing send-off. Might as well go out with a positive way of things 👍🏻)
