Look, I'm not saying that they're bad guys. Obviously protecting the world is good. They're still SUPER weird though, right?

And secrets on secrets on secrets. Why do the Wardens need to be so vague about Warden stuff?

"What to Wardens even do?"
"We defeat the Darkspawn and protect Thedas from the Blight."
"How do you find Darkspawn to do that?"
".....We look for them."
".... Okay? How do you fight the Blight?"
"Slay the Archdemon."
"And how do you-"
"Warden secret."
"Why are there so few Wardens when you're not exactly picky about who joins?"
"That's a secret."
"What does becoming a Warden entail?"
"Also a secret."

Welcome to Episode 2 of Ran Explains Lore (Badly!)

Grey Wardens: "Men and women from every race, warriors and mages, barbarians and kings." That's how the Wardens describe themselves. They allow anyone to join their ranks no matter their race or class, and fight to stem the tide of evil that hides just beneath our feet. Sounds noble, no?

Yet the Wardens also recruit criminals and murderers into their ranks. They'd burn a city, or leave a nation to be ravaged by the Blight to suit their goals.

There are several different kinds of Darkspawn. I have only fought two in my days as a mercenary.

Genlocks: Short, but with long-ass arms. They tend to walk on their knuckles, and move surprisingly quickly. They also pack a heckuva punch and grasp. Very annoying.

Hurlocks: These guys kinda look like a man, if something ate his face off his skull, and sharpened his teeth. They're not quite as fast or strong as their short brothers, but they compensate with weapons and armor.

Welcome to the first episode of Ran Explains Lore (Badly!)!
Today's topic: The Darkspawn

So a thousand years ago some stupid mages did some stupid magic shit, got cursed, turned into monsters, and thrown underground. They made a bunch of monster babies, dug up a hibernating dragon-god, then decided to conquer the world! They almost did, and then the Grey Wardens showed up and kicked their asses. This has happened five times now.
