My son has discovered duck duck go and start page. I do believe that he's growing up to be more privacy conscious than I ever was.

I spoke too soon, he found ecosia.org/ as well and is excited to use it. I love this kid, he's really keen to contribute with saving the environment every chance he gets. (I help as much as I can too!)

He has announced to me and The Void that he's going to forever use ecosia because he wants trees EVERYWHERE and listed a number of inconvenient places that trees could be placed. 🤣 An eco troll, I've raised an eco troll haha

@PaganMother Duck duck go has been my go-to browser & search engine for quite a few years now. I was an early adopter. I'm really glad to hear your son is attuned to online privacy. It's so important these days.

@PaganMother I've used Ecosia for years to make them plant trees. 😜

@PaganMother

I like duck duck go. You can set it to "infinite scroll" and get to better sources.

@PaganMother I love DDG's privacy; I don't like it's not so great search results, alas :(

@lenaoflune Yeah I switched over to start page a while ago and have found the results to be a lot more accurate for me. Ecosia is pretty good too from what I've seen and I like the fact that the ad revenue from that search engine actually goes towards conservation efforts.

@PaganMother Does he know about signal.org/? Hard to get people to use it, but I managed to get my family and one friend to.

@HealingHobbit No I'm actually keeping him off of messaging apps so that we can keep an eye on communications with people that we don't know personally. He's only eight so we are just keeping a close eye on his activities.

@PaganMother Excellent plan. But look into that when you allow texting. You can create a username to give friends/family that doesn't give out your phone number, and, as a general rule, no one can follow without an invite.

@PaganMother Also, I think DuckDuckGo as a browser isn't that safe, but others may correct me if I'm wrong. I use it as a search engine, and Brave, at the moment, as my browser.

@HealingHobbit He uses it as a search engine occasionally, but he switched over to ecosia. He uses Chrome mobile at the moment.
